I may go to graduate school…..one day. But, right now networking and making connections will get you a job…not a degree

You know what: im gonna stick with one degree, and make my life off of it and fuck society. Degrees don’t make you rich, ideas and strategy do.

My brother is getting his master’s degree… but, he’s going to a Canadian university, his tuition will be under $5k for the entire program, that’s doesn’t include housing though, but, probably, still going to be much less than if he did it in the US.

I don’t think a Master’s Degree is the new Bachelor’s Degree, because they are two separate degrees, one requiring more advanced critical thinking and work than the other. You cannot call a Bachelor’s Degree a high school diploma, because the knowledge level of high school education versus college education are two different things. Unless a specific major, such as Education, requires a Master’s Degree, most people should be getting jobs with a Bachelor’s. The unemployment rate for college graduates is lower than those who have a high school diploma.

This is a ridiculously complicated world – so complicated that you have to spend half your life just being educated. Hell, you might still be adjusting to this society into adulthood. There’ a problem here..

Don’t knock online education. If it’s regionally accredited it’s required BY LAW to be a bit more rigorous. I love going to school online, it works for me.

You guys are SO off-base with your opinion of universities offering online programs it makes me wonder if you are indeed involved in the process of studying education at all, or are you just reading what other people are saying. Examples of universities and colleges offering online (distance) degrees, particularly at the graduate level: Columbia U, Penn State, Harvard, Drexel, U of Texas System, USC, Wash St., U of North Dakota and U of South Dakota, Auburn, Duke, Florida State, U of Florida, U of North Carolina, U of Wisc, U of Mich, U of Nebr., U of Okla, Okla St., Pepperdine, Syracuse, CUNY, U of Indiana, Indiana St., Arizona St., U of Maryland System, etc., etc., etc.
If you think the only real education in 2014 is sitting in a classroom, you may need to get out more.

Find what you love in life and follow it. If you don’t make too much money from it either live within your means, or choose whether wealth is more important than happiness.

Well, to get the better pay grade, and be more competitve, I had to get a masters degree in my field. It does help. Better pay, better skill set.
Some field dont require a degree. Had a conversation with computer programmers who informed me that a degree in computer programming was the biggest hindrance one could possibly have there. Weird but true after they explained it.

I still don’t understand why people study in the US ? You can get free Bachelor or Masters in top universities in Europe like UK or Norway

This is what happens with government aid and loans. Colleges keep on raising prices as the students have easy access to the money. When you have lots of degrees then they are worth less. This is the reason why masters is the new bachelors. This is why a lot of people with bachelors are working at places that do not even require a degree. More people go to school rather than learning on the job or getting highly trained. The government distorts the natural market.

A Bachelor’s degree is a glorified AA. Its gotten to the point where you need at least a Master’s just to survive. More people are obtaining BA’s, which has lowered the value of the degree. Anytime more people have something it lowers the value. Look at gold, the more people that have it lessens the value, the more rare of a commodity it is the more value it has. That’s how capitalism works.

Just because you have a Masters Degree doesn’t mean you are worth anything to a company. A College degree is nothing more then a piece of paper. It is the sad truth. I feel bad for the kids who spend 50k a year or more on college. Then they go for a Masters because they can’t get a job. By the time your done you owe a quarter million and you end up making 30k a year. Unless you are going to be a Doctor or Dentist do yourself a favor and go to State school or technical school.
