First step to get out of debt: stop making new debt. The rest is easy.
“Yes, I’d love to help you out of the hole you’ve dug for yourself. But first, I’m gonna need you to stop digging, and put down the shovel.”

the majority of Dave Ramsey’s wealth has come from selling books and seminars

I have his books and have been to seminars. I’ve even been in his house. The weird thing is I think most of his wealth may actually come from real estate! I’m sure he has some fatty stock market investments too. He got back in real estate just as a realtor and got his family on the right path that way….then decided to help people. It’s a pretty cool story.

But that’s fine because the purpose is to take people out of debt not teach them how to do business

The United States media actually reports on important and real issues? Who would have known.

It’s hard. I have $1275.50 ($1000 just didn’t seem to be enough) in emergency savings, $2000 in retirement, and $21000 in student debt. I didn’t pay off the smallest one first, but the bigger one with the bigger interest payment. I had 43k in debt, and I paid that off in 1 year.

when I have kids I will only stress high school, they shall graduate and get their diploma like I did. I don’t stress college, if anything they’re on their own when they’re 18. So I won’t be financing any tuition as I believe college is optional. Only K-12 is mandatory. I’m lucky to have finished high school!

I’m 28 years old and I’m over $28,000.00 in debit. I work 60+ hours a week and still barely have enough to pay my bills let alone pay any debt. I’m screwed, and there is no way out.

You then need to look at expenses. Where can you sell things to pay on debt, or where can you reduce daily expenses? Can you cut back on groceries or utilities, entertainment, cut internet or lower cell phone plan?

Why do people want to pay for their kids to go to college? My mom didn’t pay one red cent towards mine, I worked 4 jobs and went full time, took care of her as she was dying, I would NEVER have asked her to pay for my school! I don’t intend to pay for my children’s school either, that’s where growing up comes in to understand what school is for. Of course, I finished school, then assumed care of my invalid sister, so I never used my degree that I now owe $79,000 on because I couldn’t afford to take care of her and work too, so I don’t know that I will push for my kids to go to college. I think a trade school is the best place to start. At least it gives you some ground to stand on when the world is shaking under foot.
